Morgan Noireuax an AWT Champion in Mexico & so close in Peru

The last month has been an incredible experience for the riders on the AWT tour. As riders began arriving in Peru nobody could know quite what they were in for. Pacasmayo delivered amazing waves, wind and opened our eyes to new challenges. It was great to have Black Project riders from all over the world come together, many meeting for the first time and all ripping as hard as they can. Morgan Noireaux (JP, Hot Sails Maui, Black Project) was the early favorite for the title but would eventually fall a little short and miss out on the podium. Despite riding to almost perfection in the week it came down to twenty minutes and he couldn’t quite find the waves that he needed to demonstrate what he could do. At the time it seemed like it could be a turning point for the young Hawaiian based rider and he left South American focussed on the next job in hand powered by a clear disappointment in Peru.

With a brief 24 hour stop in the USA the team was across the border and heading to San Carlos, Mexico. Morgan ever focused and straight on the water seemed at ease on his favorite tack. With the forecast less than perfect the full competition would run on the first day of the window, maybe this was good for Morgan, he had waited around n Peru all week to get his moment and this time he would be able to just go for it with a clear mind. Once again he progressed quickly to the last 4 (the same 4 riders as in Peru – Morgan, Kevin Prichard, Levi Siver and Bernd Roediger) but this time he took control of the semi final and booked his place in the top two. We were all watching from the cliff and knew what we were witnessing as multiple world champion Kevin Pritchard would throw everything at the teenaged rider but Morgan would just go faster, tighter and bigger and took his first victory on the AWT tour in convincing fashion.

With this breakthrough I wonder if we will see a building momentum, we have all known that Morgan would start winning but we were not sure when it would happen. He will go into the next event in North Carolina in 3rd overall for the year and with a short of the title, it will be an interesting few weeks.
