EPIC Pro 95 Premium Carbon paddle – Marco’s first impressions

Back in late October Black Project was on location at the 1st Annual Tofino Invitational SUP contest, hosted by Tofino Paddle Surf, Tofino, Canada. Black Project’s Chris Freeman was asked to be the Head Judge and it was a great opportunity get Black Project paddles on demo too. There was a great buzz around both the EPIC Pro and EPIC Vario with a number of riders deciding to upgrade. One customer Marco, who moved to Canada from Italy sent us this feedback;

“During our first SUP Contest in Tofino, BC, Canada, I had the chance to try a few Black Project paddles thanks to our Head Judge Chris Freeman that brought a few demos over. Despite the size of our town (quite small) I have been lucky to try lots of different high tech paddles from different companies (I work for one of the shops). I have owned 3 different brands, full carbon and wave designed but so far I have to say that the Epic Pro 95 Premium Carbon is the best I have paddled with. I love the size of the blade and the shape of it, it makes it fast and responsive allowing quick strokes, power to get into the waves but with ease into my shoulders. The responsiveness of it allows those little adjustments under water to make some directional change and the lightness is great in the air when switching from side to side during transitions from rail to rail.

I was also able to try the Medium Shaft and the Flex Shaft. On a clean day with a smaller board I loved the Flex Shaft, nice and soft would feel like cutting butter. But when it go a bit rougher and I switched to a bigger board I loved the Medium Shaft just to be able to keep everything under control.

Once I had tried everything I decided to buy the Epic Pro 95 Premium Carbon with a MEDIUM SHAFT and T handle. I weight 170 lbs plus 10 lbs of thick wetsuit and I ride a 105 liters in average conditions, not too choppy but not glassy.  So far the paddle and medium shaft is doing an Excellent Job! I will get ready for some clean summer sessions with a Flex Shaft in a couple of months.” Marco (Canada)
